Introduction
This body of work began in the fall of 2010, inspired by the history of Savannah, Georgia and the coastal south. Intrigued by ideas of hauntings and spirits and taking cues from Victorian spirit photography, I began taking self-portraits in places of both known and unknown significance using a pinhole camera. I chose this camera for the ease of taking long exposures, allowing me to capture the spirit of a place, as well as a passage of time. I use a post process called mordançage to bleach, etch and manipulate the silver in my prints, adding to the themes of time, decay and mortality in the work. The process also gives the images mysterious and otherworldly qualities, separating them from reality. This series questions time, reality and existence.
Volume I was made in the fall of 2010 and presented as a one of a kind artist book. Volume II was created in spring of 2011. Every print is one of a kind.
